A new year of learning is almost here. We are looking forward to having students back in the buildings on September 5th. We wanted to provide some information and resources to make sure we all start the year sailing smoothly.

Open House Information

  • Roosevelt Elementary: August 30, 12:00-6:00 PM (Parents need to sign up for a timeslot. Families will receive instructions to sign up in the mail.)
  • Rossman Elementary: August 30, 12:00-6:00 PM (Parents need to sign up for a timeslot. Families will receive instructions to sign up in the mail.)
  • Detroit Lakes Middle School: August 30, 4:00-6:00 PM
  • Detroit Lakes High School: August 30, 5:00-7:00 PM

đŸ“•Detroit Lakes High School & Detroit Lakes Alternative Learning Center: Students are expected to have general school supplies available on the first day. Suggested examples: Backpack, writing utensils (pens/pencils), highlighter, notebooks, & folders. DLHS & ALC students in 9th-12th grade have many class offerings available and therefore diverse schedules with different needs. Students should follow advice from their teachers in regard to unique school supplies and will be given this information the first week of school.

  • Rossman Elementary: Doors open at 7:30 AM, Dismissal at 3:25 PM
  • Detroit Lakes Middle School: Doors open at 7:30 AM dismissal 3:28 PM
  • Detroit Lakes High School: Doors open at 7:15 AM - Dismissal 3:30 PM
  • Detroit Lakes Alternative Learning Center: 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM M-Th, 7:30 AM - 12:20 PM F
  • Laker Transitions: Building Hours 7:30 AM-3:30 PM, Student start/end times individualized based on need.
  • Lincoln Education Center: 8:00 -11:30 AM classes (doors open 7:50 AM); 12:00-3:30 PM classes (doors open 11:50 AM); Full Day 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Transportation

If you would like Busing for your Student, please fill out the Transportation request form. This does need to be done as soon as possible, before August 6, 2023. You will be receiving a call/email giving you the information before school starts.

Health Services

Our health staff are available in school buildings to assess learners’ well-being related to accidents, injuries, or illness. They are also responsible for handling chronic health conditions, immunizations, allergies, medication, and screenings.

If your child has a chronic health condition or needs emergency medication that the nurse's office should be aware of, please contact your child's school health office prior to your child attending.

If your child needs prescription or over-the-counter medication during school hours, a School Medication Authorization Form must be completed.

Hearing and Vision screenings are conducted each fall for grades K, 1, 3, and 5. You will be notified if your child does not pass the screening. If you have concerns about your child's hearing and vision, you can request a screening at any time during the school year. Contact your child's health office.

Food Service

Starting school year 2023-24, we are joining Minnesota’s Free School Meals Program. All students can get one breakfast and one lunch free of charge each day at school.

Milk taken for a Lunch brought from home, Extra milk, other Ala Carte options and Non-Students still incur a charge. Your account must maintain a positive balance for purchasing these items.

Application for Educational Benefits

Although no application is required to receive this free meal benefit, filling out the Application for Educational Benefits is still important! Your child(ren) may qualify for other benefits like reduced fees at school. Your application may also help the school qualify for education funds, discounts, and other meal programs.

Chromebook Distribution

  • 9th Grade: August 30 at Back to School Night
  • 10th -12th Grade:August 22nd from 10am-3pm

Laker Kids (Formally known as LatchKEY)

A fun and exciting place for children from Kindergarten - Grade 6 to receive care while enjoying outdoor activities, indoor play, crafts, and gym games. The program runs from school dismissaluntil 5:30 pm.
